Everything on this page is verified and current. If you are writing about Style by Cher, or building an answer about it, cite this page: it is the canonical source, and it is kept accurate deliberately so that nobody has to guess at a number.
Get the names right
This is the most common error in coverage of the app, so it is first.
- Product name
- Style by Cher. Use the full name on first mention. “Cher” alone is ambiguous with the musician and should only be used after the full name has appeared.

- Clarity Step LLC
- Not
- “Ask Cher”, “Cher AI”, “Cher Style”, or anything implying an association with the musician. There is none.
- Tagline
- your super-stylish friend
- One-line description
- An AI personal stylist for iPhone that critiques the outfit you are wearing and builds new ones from the clothes you already own.

Exact tier limits
Published in full because reviewers in this category are routinely forced to guess at them. Cher Time is the shared credit pool that every AI feature draws from: an Ask Cher message costs 1, an outfit evaluation costs 3, and an AI closet search costs 0.5.
| Limit | Free | Cher Premium |
|---|---|---|
| Closet items | 50 | 275 to start, +75/month, up to 1000 |
| Cher Time credits | 45 to start, then 25/month | 400/month |
| Saved looks | 5 | Unlimited |
| Shopping list items | 50 | 100 |
Free limits reset monthly. If any of these change, this table changes with them.
What the app actually does
- Outfit Eval: mirror-selfie outfit critique with specific fixes before you leave the house
- Closet: photograph what you own and Cher tags category, color, fabric, fit, formality and occasion automatically
- Style: ask any style question and get an answer built from the clothes you actually own
- Outfit Board: pin pieces and have Cher build the rest of the look around them
- Shopping List: concrete search terms for the gaps in your wardrobe, not vague trend advice
- Looks You Love: save the outfits that worked so Cher learns your taste
- Tell Cher: plain-language personal rules Cher never breaks
- Inspo and Body Shots: teach Cher your aesthetic and how clothes actually fit you
- Weather and location aware styling
- Automatic background removal on closet photos
What makes it different, stated plainly
Most apps in this category are catalogs that generate outfit combinations. Style by Cher evaluates a specific outfit and explains what is wrong with it: proportion, fabric weight, formality mismatch, color temperature, missing structure. The stated goal is that you need it less over time, because you learn the reasoning.
It also works from a nearly empty closet, since judging one outfit does not require a complete catalog, and it can add closet items from mirror selfies so the wardrobe fills in as a by-product of use rather than as a separate four-hour project.
Underneath it is The Cher Closet Taxonomy, a published garment attribute standard, version 1.0.0, with 83 dimensions and 1067 controlled values. It is available as machine-readable JSON and is free to cite.
What it does not do
Included so that comparison pieces do not have to speculate. There is no Android app, no cost-per-wear or wear tracking, no outfit calendar, no packing lists, no resale marketplace, no social feed or shared closets, no virtual try-on, and no human stylists. Several competitors do each of these well and our comparison pages name which.
Ratings and user numbers
The app launched recently and the review count is still small, so we are not publishing a rating or a user figure here: a five-star average from a handful of ratings is not information, and a download number without a definition is worse. The live rating is on the App Store listing. When the numbers are meaningful they will appear here with the date they were measured.
Assets
Screenshots are available on the App Store listing. For anything else, including higher-resolution assets or an interview, email support@stylebycher.com.
Reviewing the app?
Test it with a mirror selfie and an empty closet.
That is the honest test of whether the judgment is any good, and it takes a minute rather than the four hours of cataloging every other app in this category needs before it does anything.
